Interpretation

(1)  Voice interpretation:  Interpretation is voice translation, and TYTC is your own personal United Nations, without the booths and without the interpreters being present in the classroom.  Your interpreters can be located anywhere in the world:  in their native countries, in your dorms, in their homes, or elsewhere.  Using TYTC, an interpreter listens to the teacher’s voice on a website, and as interpreter speaks his/her voice travels the internet to your students.   If an interpreter speaks  “LIVE” as the class is being given, the voice of that interpreter can be selected by the students from a language dropdown.

Up to 20 interpreters can participate at the same time.   You may use your own staff or students as interpreters.  TYTC offers professional interpreters and has special economy engagements with students of interpretation to provide lower priced services.   Universities and institutions may find that using a student as interpreter is the least expensive option of all, and if that student is majoring in the course being interpreted you may have very good results, particularly for technical and medical subjects.

(2) Voice-to-subtitles interpretation:  Subtitles have the advantage of being silent, also subtitles enable students to listen to the original teacher’s voice and learn the language while reinforcing what they learn with the subtitle text on screen.   When the interpreter speaks, his/her voice is recognized and turned into text on screen below the image of the teacher or teaching materials.  This process not only creates real-time text translation of the class, but also provides a base transcript for perfect subtitles using the online interface.

Typed Text Interpretation

Text interpretation is a real-time typed translation rather like real-time chat.  The typing can be in the original language typed by:  (a) captioners who have television closed captioning software, (b) anyone who can listen and transcribe quickly in the speaker’s language, or (c) a professional translator who listens to the speaker in the original language while typing in the translation language.    Text that is typed in the original language is automatically translated into up to 20 languages simultaneously.   And languages that are typed in real-time by a translator can be read across the screen while also being translated into more languages, if desired.   The audience will choose how to receive the translation:  as text subtitles or as text-to-voice.

(1)  Premium approach:  If you are experienced in translation, TYTC has everything you need to internationalize your classes with professional translators.  TYTC is compatible with the special translator software Trados and DejaVu.  If you desire professional translation, but have no translator for some or all languages, TYTC offers professional in most categories.

Automated Translation

Interactivity is a remarkable feature of Translate Your Training & Courses.  Most remarkable is the fact that the interactivity is in up to 20 languages at the same time.   There is a field on each student’s screen where they can type comments, answers, or questions, then click to send.  If the text is not in the teacher’s language, it will be translated en route.  A list of student questions will appear on the teacher’s screen, from which the teacher can select those to answer during class, and answer others at a later time.

Are you there?

This same field and concept can be used to assure that the internet connections to students are still functioning, and that the course is being heard.  The farther the student is from a main metropolitan center, the greater the likelihood that they may periodically drop off the connection.  Or, perhaps, the students who are learning may have other distractions, and the teacher attempts to keep them focused.  There is a choice of a pop-up questions “Click to assure connection”, or the teacher can ask questions that demand an answer in the chat field.  In either case, this “Are you there?” feature tends to keep the organization a bit tighter.

Real-Time Text is perhaps an exciting and remarkable feature of Translate Your Training & Courses. When your teacher speaks, what he/she says is instantly turned into readable text in up to 20 languages. What does this mean? This means that people who are hard of hearing or ESL can read what the teacher is saying like captions on a television show, while international students can read what your teacher is saying as “live subtitle text” in their choice.  Subtitles can be read in up to 20 languages simultaneously.   In fact, you can have an entire group of students from different countries, plus some people who are deaf, plus some people who are hard of hearing, and everyone can understand.

Subtitles are divided into:  (1)  LIVE Subtitles in real-time, and (2)  Post-Class Subtitles created after the course is over.  The main difference between the two is that LIVE Subtitles are created as the instructor is speaking, whereas Post-Calass Subtitles are perfored in a slower, more methodical manner.

LIVE Subtitles

As a class streams across the web, the teacher’s words can also be streamed LIVE in up to 20 languages simultaneously.  This concept alone is game-changing.  These LIVE Subtitles can be generated through 100% automation (automatic speech recognition followed by controlled automated translation), or a hybrid in which an interpreter’s voice is recognized and turns into subtitles through speech recognition.  LIVE Subtitles will never really be perfect, but are a fine “first pass”, and can be followed later with “Post-Class Subtitles”.  With LIVE Subtitles, there are simply too many moving parts to be error-free:  the teacher’s clarity of speech, the preparation of the technnical “dictionary”,  and the results of translation (see “Translation Options”).    There are ways to make the LIVE Subtitles extremely good, so will be a decision to be made by the teacher or institution.

With Post-Class Subtitles,  on the other hand, there is the opportunity to assure perfection.  There is time to translate with care, review the results, and other advantages that come with having the time to do something right.  Post-Class subtitles can be created  “from scratch” in a variety of ways from a video of the class, or the LIVE Subtitles can be upgraded.  In either case, the final Post-Class subtitled result can be sold and viewed over and over again via the web.  And because is on the web, the content and translation can be  modified and improved at any time.

Creating LIVE Subtitles

There is an online interface for creating live subtitles.  In the classroom, on a laptop, tablet, or other device, the cursor is placed into a special field and the speech technology is started.  All that is spoken by the instructor will be recognized by the technology and automatically entered into that field.  Then, either that content will be automatically translated during its passage and forwarded to students, or an interpreter will echo what the instructor says in their language and the interpreter’s words – typed as subtitle text – will be distributed to the students.

These numerous voice methodologies give you the opportunity to provide your media in multiple languages, often at low cost.  And to play the media translation in the manner most convenient to your facility.  Visitors can choose their audio language on their own smartphones or tablets, or the facility can deliver audio through headphones, kiosks, and speakers.   Language audio can also be a hybrid of professionally recorded and synthesized computer voices, making it less expensive to offer more languages than in the past.

Adding International Audio
